Stone coping and paving around a curved spa

New pool coping for a solid, safe edge

Coping is the cap along the top of your pool wall, the edge you sit on and grab. When it cracks or shifts, it becomes a trip hazard and lets water into the joint below.

What coping does at the pool's edge

Coping caps the top of the pool wall and covers the joint between the pool and the deck. It keeps water out of that joint and gives you a firm edge to hold.

It's also the part of the pool you see most. Worn coping can date a pool even when the finish is new.

Signs your coping needs replacing

Coping moves with the deck as the ground heats and cools. Over the years, that can loosen caps and open up the joints.

  • Cracked or broken caps
  • Pieces that rock when you step on them
  • Gaps where the coping meets the deck
  • Mortar joints that have washed out

Coping materials and how they differ

Natural stone has a clean, solid look and pairs well with stone tile. Concrete can be poured to follow curves and odd shapes.

Pavers can match a paver deck, so the edge and the deck look like one surface. Light colors stay cooler under the summer sun.

Plan the edge with the tile and deck

We take off the old coping and prep the top of the wall before new caps go on. Each piece is measured and set to fit your pool's edge.

Since waterline tile sits right under the coping, the two are often replaced together. If your deck is being redone too, we plan the edge and the deck as one.

Coping questions

Can't find your answer? Call (602) 550-8627.

What is pool coping?

It's the cap along the top edge of the pool wall. It sits between the water and the deck, and it's where you sit with your feet in the pool.

Can I replace coping without redoing my deck?

Often, yes. We check the joint between the coping and the deck at your visit. If the deck is cracked or sinking there too, you'll know before you decide.

Which coping material works best in Arizona heat?

Light colors stay cooler than dark ones in full sun. Each material we offer works here, so the choice often comes down to looks and what your deck is made of.

Does new coping mean new tile too?

Not always, but they're often done together. The tile row sits right under the coping, and old tile can crack when the coping comes off.

How long does coping replacement take?

It depends on the size of your pool and the material. Most of our remodel projects take 1 to 4 weeks, coping included. You'll get a schedule before we start.

How much does new coping cost?

It depends on how many feet of edge your pool has and the material you choose. The on-site estimate is free.

Can I finance new coping?

Yes, through Lyon Financial. Ask about it at your free estimate.

Geovani was a super star to work with. His team came in and chipped, hauled and gave our pool a major glow up in record time! Three things come to mind when working with Geovani. 1. Customer satisfaction. We originally picked a tile and when we got it, realized it was not it. We picked a new one and were super pumped when it arrived. He handled the return and that process. He wanted us happy. It felt more than just replacing our pool. He cares about what you want! 2. His pricing and quality. Our pool surface is so smooth. No lumps, bumps and they even added our waterline tile in the steps. It’s a unique and beautiful pool. Can’t believe it’s ours! 3. Communication. I loved communicating in Slack. Genius! 10/10 would recommend. His reviews are legit and should we need his services in the future, we won’t hesitate to reach out. That also includes referrals! Attached before and afters. Aqua azul with coldwater tile for the waterline and we did do a bag of glass beads (had them apply more to the steps for that extra ✨ sparkle!).
